Postmortem:
Overall, we felt like we did alright with considering our circumstances but there were certainly some things that could have been done better. We also feel like we did well in certain aspects.
What went well:
Some of the things that went well during development involved the gameplay. We are extremely proud of how the juggle system turned out as it wasn't going to be in the game originally, but we wanted to add something that would make this game somewhat interesting to spice up the gameplay loop. The adaptability of the team was also another thing that went well. Since we didn't have a full team of four people working on the game, knowing when and how to pivot game mechanics at the last moment was crucial for us and we were able to do that very efficiently. The art of the game being finished is also another factor. Even the fact that we finished the game is something that went really well.
What didn't go well:
The gameplay loop is something that suffered from the amount of time we put into it. At first, we wanted to do several things in the game not knowing if it would benefit the gameplay loop or not, but we only got to add a few of them. This led to the gameplay feeling pretty shallow and uninteresting since the player was too powerful from the start. This was caused by a lack of us being able to work on the game. We weren't able to fully manage our time well enough to add more mechanics or to fine-tune them leading to them being mostly unfinished. Because of this, not only did we focus on a little bit of content being in the game, but we also had to cut several ideas we had from the start.
